Open Call Berlin Performing Arts Festival 2017

LAFT Berlin invites all professional Berlin-based artists, groups and performance venues of the independent performing arts community to participate in shaping the schedule of programming by offering their productions and events as part of the Berlin Performing Arts Festival!

The Berlin Performing Arts Festival is a city-wide festival of Berlin’s independent performing arts community with the participation of the independent performance venues, groups and artists. The community is responsible for the festival artistically and organizationally. The 2017 Berlin Performing Arts Festival will take place from June 13 (opening)  to 18, 2017. The festival team provides comprehensive support to the independent performing arts community for the realization of the festival, provides advice during the planning of the schedule of programming and promotes the festival in a local, national and international context.

The registration and/or submission deadline for all formats was January 22, 2017.

Open Submissions

All Berlin performance venues and event locations of the independent performing arts community as well as professional Berlin-based groups and artists are invited to present their work with their productions and events on the festival days from June 14 – 18, 2017. The schedule of programming for the open submissions format of the Berlin Performing Arts Festival is not curated by the festival. Artists and groups can only submit their work in cooperation with a performance venue or an event location.

Newcomer’s Platform

The Newcomer’s Platform is a special focus within the festival. Young Berlin-based artists and groups with complete productions can apply to have their work presented to a (professional) audience in this format during the festival. The curatorially selected productions will be presented at the four cooperating performance venues Ballhaus Ost, HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Sophiensæle and Theaterdiscounter. In addition, the participating artists will receive dramaturgical support as well as an invitation to participate in a workshop and discussion formats.

Berlin Diagonale – Show Camp

The Berlin Diagonale – Show Camp is intended for all members of Berlin’s independent performing arts community. By means of an international platform for artists and groups working in all genres, the festival's professional audience from throughout Germany and abroad will be offered the opportunity to quickly learn more about tourable work and new projects from Berlin.
The combination of the proven table format of Berlin Diagonale and a 6-minute presentation provides insights into the previous artistic work with previews of future production, creating space for conversations and the opportunity for direct exchange.
