Western Society (Gob Squad)
The starting point of Gob Squad’s performance is a home video found on the internet. The individual sequences of movement in the living room society are meticulously deciphered, dismantled and reassembled. This creates a panorama of Western society in the 21st century, half nightmare, half social utopia. At the heart of the party, in the middle of a crowd, is where loneliness is worst. According to the New York Times “a haunting, funny vision of a society that shifts from total inclusivity to isolating exclusion.” After numerous tours of "Western Society" Gob Squad comes back to HAU Hebbel am Ufer, where the journey began.
