Do something: do Nothing!
The five performers of Hysterisches Globusgefühl are full of beans and at the same time, unable to act: they struggle through their everyday routines searching for political agency, they take to the streets still looking for something to vouch for, or stand against. Is it possible to unite in our opinions in our pluralized present age, or are we unlikely to amass enough consensus for a protest? Their performance is a response to this unsettled feeling, which they find is increasing in society.
Do something: do Nothing! creates a theatrical forum in public space in which the audience has the opportunity to think about and discuss their own kind of „inactivity“ or inertia. A society in which any kind of activism can be the start of an endless process of challenging, must grapple with the questions: Which options do we have? What can we do to affect change or achieve something useful? Can it sometimes be more powerful to actually do nothing?
The performance picks up forms of different political demonstrations and questions them in terms of political course of action guaranteed by the constitution of law. With a silent protest march, personal speeches, militant pamphlets, a protest march through the city and collective actions with both the audience and the passersby, Hysterisches Globusgefühl calls out „Do something: do Nothing!“.

“Hysterisches Globusgefühl” (also known as “globus sensation”, “globus pharyngis” or, somewhat outdatedly, “globus hystericus”) is defined as the persistent sensation of having a „lump in one’s throat“ such as phlegm, a pill, or some other sort of obstruction when there is none.
Hysterisches Globusgefühl (HG) is a coalition dedicated to performance. HG has been responding to periods of political resignation and stagnation of society since 2011.
HG’s work interfaces art with political activism by dealing with forms of protest and social performance. HG’s theatre plays out in public spaces and conversely, fosters public space on stages. The performers subtly stack and then tear down layers of perceptions through performances which are social events that enable the communion of different Publics and present them with absurd strategic solutions to both individual and societal problems.  Through a rigorous examination of familiar actions, HG asks its Publics to question daily routines. By employing tactics such as irritation they express a ‚Hysterisches Globusgefühl‘ and unified global discomfort. Through performance, the artists aspire to subvert social spaces by interpreting theatre as an opportunity to engage in confrontation by providing a stage to spotlight our own pervasive ennui and an opportunity to take action by challenging the status quo.

Das Ballhaus Ost ist eine Spielstätte für freies Theater, Performance und Tanz. Beheimatet in der 1907 erbauten ehemaligen Feier- und Versammlungshalle der Freireligiösen Gemeinde zu Berlin, versteht sich das Haus in der Pappelallee 15 im Prenzlauer Berg als Kooperationshaus für Gruppen und Künstler aus sämtlichen Sparten der darstellenden Kunst. Als Experimentierbühne für unterschiedlichste Formen zeitgenössischen Theaters lädt das Ballhaus Ost dazu ein, neue Wege der künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung mit heutiger Lebenswirklichkeit zu erleben und zu entdecken. Dabei finden Zusammenarbeiten sowohl mit etablierten Gruppen und Künstlern als auch mit bislang weniger bekannten Akteuren der freien Szene statt.
Gegründet 2006 von Uwe Moritz Eichler, Philipp Reuter und Anne Tismer, wird das Haus seit 2011von Daniel Schrader und Tina Pfurr geleitet.
