Miserliness is not awesome, everybody knows that. And if you’re stingy yourself, that is only smart parsimony at the right time. You never know… safe is safe.
But where does avarice start and where does safety end? In 1668, at the premiere of Molière’s comedy, nobody was able to laugh. It is the irrepressable fear of the social decline and the wish for safety that strikes the “eponymous heroe” Harpagon with suspicion, neuroses and paranoia. In his world, there’s not even room for his childrens’ love’s bliss
because even love must be profitable. Egoistic manipulations spin an impervious net of dependencies, but still everyone gets their happy ending. Or maybe not? Who knows… What is for sure?

The mountain is calling! Animated by the audience’s brisk reception that has granted a literally full (fairy tale) cabin every evening, and full of irrepressible joy of the craft, the founders of the “Hexenkessel Hoftheater” – Jan Zimmermann (stage director and author), Roger Jahnke (production manager and actor), and Carsta Zimmermann (actress) – revive the beautiful “Pfefferberg” Theatre with new classic pieces. Henceforth, along with the (“Hexenkessel Hoftheater”/ “Märchenhütte”) fairy tale cabin’s longstanding actors – Vlad Chiriac, Torsten Schnier, Michael Schwager und Andreas Köhler – next to the well-known precursors Shakespeare, Molière and further, they also play Kleist, Büchner and their kinsmen; all the pieces adapted the “Hexenberg” way.
The established ensemble, that has been firmly rooted in Berlin’s theatre scene for over 20 years, brings modern popular theatre to a familiar setting, and acted out with glowing passion.
