FLESHLESS BEAST (kNoname Artist / Roderick George)

Societally anchored attributions – e.g. the association of one style of dance with a population group – create gaps such as those between so-called high culture and popular culture. In Fleshless Beast, elements of classic ballet are combined with hip-hop, breakdance and modern dance. The choreography calls for a new layer in the diversity of the self as well as within the art of dance.

Roderick George studied at SUNY College in New York and worked for the Forsythe Company. His first works were shown at DanceLab of Ballett Basel. His work Dust was shown at Tanztage Berlin 2016 in Sophiensæle.

The Sophiensæle is one of the most important locations for the production of the independent arts in the German-speaking world. Artists from Berlin, as well as the national and international theater community are invited to produce and present their works here. They are selected on the basis of their artistic concepts, content and working methods. The theater is home to cultural discourse and a vast mix of artistic genres – from theater, dance and music to performance and visual art; which complement each other and enjoy a productive dialogue. Alongside many young artists searching for new theatrical languages and forms of expression, a number of established artists and companies have longstanding partnerships with the Sophiensæle.
