Ways of Dying

It's Joyce’s birthday party. In a suburban house, an old woman falls from her couch, eyes open. The old woman bites her tongue. The birthday girl closes her eyes and blows out the candles. Inspired by the 15th century Artes Moriendi writings, we look at the micro-rituals, subtle moves and cries for help that betray our macabre thoughts in a rare collection of dark flashes and deep silences.

At TATWERK in Berlin, late 2017, Compagnie des Wanderers met A Dog's Heart Theatre. They both wanted to go back to the raw foundations of live theater and radically experiment. And so they embarked on a piece together, Artes Moriendi - Ways of Dying, using their guts and the diversity of their cultural background to fuel their creativity and beautiful dissents. All scattered between Argentina and several European countries and meeting only to make art, both groups look for ways to be local and produce art while being aware of its environmental impact and attempting to reduce its carbon footprint.

TATWERK | PERFORMATIVE FORSCHUNG is a production center and studio for the performing arts in Berlin. The artistic research focuses on physical theater, dance and performance with a particular focus on interdisciplinary projects.
TATWERK is a point of intersection for artists who choose the body as material and the research as a tool for their work. Our work consists of offering an artistic exchange platform for ideas, artistic practices and projects.
Our main interest is on multidisciplinary, political and poetic projects in the field of the performing arts. We are particularly interested in the research into thematic and aesthetic points of frictions between different artistics, social and scientific disciplines. The resulting schedule of programming consisting of classes, workshops and performance projects is completed by events and festivals where selected artists present their work in form of previews, work in progress or ready productions.
In addition, we offer support for issues relating to theater technology, production and PR.
TATWERK | PERFORMATIVE FORSCHUNG responds to the need of many artists for an open space and pursues long-term working relationships.
