"The Variety Café Berlin" is an evening of performance delectables, featuring short performances from a wide variety of genres: dance, theater, music, performance and everything in between. The event attracts artists from Berlins’ various experimental performing arts scenes, as well as both established and up-and-coming artists. Come and have a taste of Berlin and its eclectic performing arts scene. We promise you will leave hungry for more.
Variety Café Berlin is a monthly series that is open to all performing artists - from any genre and coming from any level of experience. As part of the Performing Arts Festival Berlin we will be sharing some of our audience favorites.

Liz Erber, Vorstand des Studio 77 e.V., hat im Oktober 2015 die Open Stage Serie gegründet. Seit 2008 hat sie regelmäßige Kunstsalons in Berlin und andere Performance-Abende organisiert, in denen sie ihre eigene Choreographie sowie die Arbeit von etablierten und Nachwuchskünstlern präsentierte. Ihr Ziel ist es, eine Plattform anzubieten, auf der Künstler ihre Arbeit öffentlich zeigen können. Außerdem soll so ein Treffen und Networking zwischen Künstlern ermöglicht werden. In Berlin fehlen unkuratierte Performance Events die für alle Künstler offen sind, egal ob sie neu oder bereits etabliert sind. Solche Events sind wichtig für das Wachstums eines Künstlers sowie die Performance-Szene insgesamt. Liz ist seit 2003 Mitglied von „The Field“ in New York, was sie zu diesem offenen Format inspirierte.

» K77 Studio

K77 Studio is one of Berlin’s small, alternative spaces with an illustrious history. The studio was built by an international group of young performing artists, who squatted the abandoned building after the fall of the wall. Since it’s beginning, the studio has been home to a wild variety of experimental, dance, and improvisational performance forms.
Today the studio is run by a non-profit collective and continues to host performance evenings, organized by members of the studio and artists-in-residence. Each month the studio runs its Variety Café Berlin, which features short pieces and works-in-progress from international performing artists working in dance, theater, music, and/or everything in between. The theater improv company, Scratch Theater, also hosts a monthly show in the studio.
